Workers Comp Opt Out Now Covered In Two Panel Session

Workers Comp Consultant

The controversial Workers Comp opt out conundrum will now be covered in two sessions at the upcoming WCRI Data Wonk (my term) Conference on March 10th and 11th in Boston, MA.   I will be there attempting to live blog the sessions.   I was the first to live blog Workers Comp audit conferences.
The Workers Compensation Research Institute is out of Boston MA.   They provide a great number of research projects which cover most of the states including some very interesting studies such as Workers Comp Consultant.
If you have not made your reservation with the conference, you may want to see about it very soon.
The Second Workers Comp audit opt out session should be interesting as will the first.
WCRI is dedicating two panels at their annual conference  to help you better understand opt out.  I am glad to see Bill Minick on the panels.
Actually, there are two people from Oklahoma on the panels.   I grew up and attended college in Oklahoma.   The recent end to the oil boom has changed the economy there very quickly and not in a good way.
The first panel will include:
  • Trey Gillespie, senior Workers' Compensation audit director for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America
  • Bill Minick, president of PartnerSource
Mr. Gillespie and Mr. Minick will explain what opt out is, and is not, in the first panel.
The  second panel, WCRI has invited a balanced and diverse group of individuals to share their perspectives on opt out.  Each of the panelists below brings a different viewpoint.
  • Bruce Wood, vice president and associate general counsel for the American Insurance Association (AIA)   Interesting choice for a panel member.
  • Elizabeth Bailey, vice president of Workers' Compensation audit & safety at Waffle House, Inc.  Their raisin toast is the best.   Great employer viewpoint.
  • Alan Pierce, president of the Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG)  Likely to be the injured employee viewpoint
  • James Mills, chief of staff and director of Workers' Compensation audit at the Oklahoma Insurance Department   Someone from the center of the controversy.
Andrew Kenneally from WCRI tells me that the conference hotel ends this Friday, Feb. 19, at 5 pm ET.   This is a rather expensive hotel without the group rate.   I found that out a few years ago when I waited too long to make a reservation.
From WCRI
“We also want to make you aware that the Alliance of Women in Workers’ Compensation is hosting a separate event, “Creating an Advocacy Based Claims Model,” at the same hotel the day before our conference. Although WCRI is not sponsoring this event, it focuses on an issue raised in our worker outcomes research, which is the importance of trust in the work relationship. ”
